Christopher Mir - Parallel Play

For his second show at TMproject, Christopher Mir presents us a whole new body of works. Picking and mixing, as usual, from multiple visual sources he settled down in Cartoonland. Ranging from network media to film-stills or pop culture iconic characters, his intricate references build up a strangely familiar-looking parallel world. His use of enamel and black outline evokes a powerful hybrid of graphic novels and sign-painting. The color palette, bright and sharp adds a pop-art touch to the final result. Somewhere between Otto Dix and Beavis&Butthead, Mir found his true «egyptian style».

Christopher Mir was born in 1970 in Baltimore, USA. He received an undergraduate degree from Marlboro College in Painting and Anthropology in 1992 and went on to achieve a MFA in Painting/Printmaking in 1997 from Boston University School for the Arts. He lives and works in Hamden, CT. Christopher Mir is represented by TMproject, Geneva, Galeria Carlos Senda, Barcelona and Benrimon Contemporary, New York.
